Access to Healthcare
Sandoz, is the world’s second-largest maker of generic medicines, and we play an important role in making medicines affordable and expanding access to medicines in developing and developed countries.
We see our purpose as being to discover new ways to improve and extend people’s lives. We pioneer novel approaches to help people around the world access high-quality medicine. This is how we contribute to improving society’s ability to support growing healthcare needs.
Our Position on Access to Healthcare
Sandoz, as part of Novartis, fundamentally believes that health outcomes for patients can be improved everywhere if more people are trained to prevent, diagnose and treat disease and if the right medicines get to more people.
Access is not just a business strategy for us, but a fundamental part of our business model. Our access to healthcare activities and targets, as well as the number of patients we reach, can be found in our corporate responsibility report on our website.
The global community faces a double challenge: significant parts of the world’s population still lack access to even the most basic medicines. And still, healthcare costs and the financial burden on societies and individuals continue to rise1. Sandoz’s own research on global access to healthcare has led us to group these challenges into three distinct areas. We believe that all societies need to:
We believe that new business approaches are needed to increase the affordability and availability of innovative and generic medicines in a sustainable way and at scale. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to access to healthcare. That is why, for example, we have developed Novartis Access.
Enhancing patient access to healthcare is a longstanding commitment of Novartis, and we challenge ourselves to intensify our efforts, to learn continuously and to adapt alongside our partners so that, together, we can improve and extend people’s lives.
We can and will be part of the solution by collaborating with others to expand access to healthcare.
